Genzyme is committed to assisting patients with Stage 5 Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in obtaining access to Renvela® (sevelamer carbonate).

Renassist

Renassist is a service dedicated to helping patients determine how they can best access Renvela through their current health insurance.

Download a Renassist/RPAP application form. One application allows your patient to first have their insurance coverage for Renvela verified and, if appropriate, apply for RPAP.

Renvela Medicare Part D Assistance Program

This program provides a free supply of Renvela to eligible Medicare Part D patients who cannot afford their co-payments or co-insurance for Renvela with their Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan.

Once they qualify, eligible patients receive free drug for the remainder of the calendar year in 3 month supplies. Refills require a prescription by a Health Care Provider.

Criteria for patient eligibility:

  • Applicants must FIRST apply to the American Kidney Fund (AKF) Medicare Part D Grant Program and show that they either have been denied an AKF grant, have exhausted their AKF grant, or have been wait-listed for the AKF Program
  • Patients must have Medicare Part D Plan or Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plan and no other third party coverage
  • Estimated household Income up to 300% of the Federal Poverty Level per calendar year
  • Patients cannot be Limited Income Subsidy Recipients
  • Households must have spent 3% of estimated annual income of current calendar year on prescription drugs for household

Renal Patient Assistance Program (RPAP)

The Renal Patient Assistance Program (RPAP) is designed for patients in financial need who have no coverage for Renvela under any prescription drug benefit, Medicare, Medicaid, or other state-funded programs.

Through partnership with the American Kidney Fund (the Fund), RPAP helps qualified patients obtain a free supply of Renvela. The program is administered by the American Kidney Fund and is supported by Genzyme's donation of drug, pharmacy fees, and shipping.

Genzyme Renvela

Important Treatment Considerations

Renvela® (sevelamer carbonate) and Renagel® (sevelamer hydrochloride) are indicated for the control of serum phosphorus in patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) on dialysis. Sevelamer is contraindicated in patients with hypophosphatemia or bowel obstruction. Caution should be exercised in patients with dysphagia, swallowing disorders, severe gastrointestinal (GI) motility disorders including severe constipation or major GI tract surgery. Common adverse events reported with sevelamer include vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, and constipation. Other events reported include pruritus, rash, fecal impaction, and intestinal obstruction. Drug-drug interactions may occur with some medications and should be taken into consideration when instructing patients how to take sevelamer. Patients should be informed to take sevelamer with meals and to adhere to their prescribed diets.
